Happy PRIDE month!
Welcome to June as we celebrate our community, transition into the summer and reflect on our “mutual flourishing”.
This week we will celebrate our UU Religious Education community with appreciations and a party! The following week we’ll celebrate all of our other volunteers during our last service in the sanctuary before moving to the air-conditioned Chapel. If you are a person who primarily attends services but would like to feel more deeply engaged and connected at North Parish, please feel free to email me so we can chat about where you might fit in next fall. Here’s a well-kept secret: having even a small role on Sundays or other days also gives you that extra motivation to keep coming to services and remembering how good it is to be together! If you are a “Summer Church” person, it’s a great time to just show up a bit early and offer to greet or stay a bit to help clean up lemonade hour- easy and so helpful.
For our teachers or those with children or youth, school extends almost to the end of the month due to
this winter’s snow days; the end is in sight but perhaps not coming quickly enough. For some, the summer months don’t mean any break in routine. For some, it is season of graduations and weddings. Today, I have one kid graduating from high school and another leaving for the rest of the summer after a brief post-semester visit. If I pause long enough- perhaps in a moment of silence on Sunday- I might realize how I feel about all of this! Meanwhile, the tumult continues around us.
At North Parish, the new Bridger’s quilt about metamorphosis is already hung on the sanctuary back wall and a Pride flag mysteriously appeared on the “green envelope” of the Meeting House. This feels representative to me- of the seasons of life we navigate together, the rites of passage we observe, and the creative, often joy-filled public witness we engage in. Yay church!
Hope to see you at the Meeting House,
Rev. Lee
P.S. This Sunday is a great day to wear your PRIDE buttons, t-shirts, gear, etc if you are looking for an occasion!
