NP CAT and RE Teamed Up at the Giving Garden Last Sunday

The rain and cold did not deter this hearty group last Sunday. The NP CAT and RE children and parents participated in a wonderful multi-generational experience to support the mission of the Giving Garden and to get dirty on a rainy Sunday morning. Thanks to the generous support from North Parish, the children were able to present a check in the amount of $769 to Emily Strong, the Executive Director and our guide for the morning. We planted seedlings and weeded.

Located at Rolling Ridge, the Giving Garden is a small-scale farm and orchard whose mission is to address local food insecurity by bringing together diverse communities of volunteers and guiding them in sustainable, organic farming practices. The Giving Garden was created in 2015 in response to increasing levels of food insecurity and a lack of fresh, healthy, culturally appropriate vegetables available in local food pantries including the People’s Pantry. The garden now has 0.4 acres of vegetable fields, an orchard with 20 fruit trees, and 21 blueberry bushes. They employ a no-till, regenerative method of gardening, which focuses on soil microbial health and supporting diverse ecosystems below and above ground to keep the garden nourished.

The CAT Team is so appreciative of this opportunity for children and adults to volunteer and reconnect them with nature and the land that feeds us. Please consider volunteering as an individual or with family and friends by signing up here.
