Last Sunday, folks gathered with the Racial Justice Team to view the short film Bounty (about the horrific practice of scalp hunting in Massachusetts). We had a rich discussion about the film and other issues related to Native American Heritage Month and to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. We realized how much more we have to learn, and hope you’ll join us! This document includes a link to the film that can be used by North Parish and a few notes from the discussion AND a wealth of resources for the whole family to learn from this month (and beyond) – Native American Heritage Month.
Resources include:
The 21-Day Racial Equity Indigenous Challenge from the Massachusetts Center for Native American Awareness. Choose one thing to read, watch, listen to, do, or engage with each day or each week.
This children’s picture book – Keepunumuk – that tells the story of Thanksgiving from the Native American perspective.
The Haudenosaunee Thanksgiving Address can be offered at your table on or near Thanksgiving.
This list of 11 ways to decolonize your Thanksgiving (including your meal) and honor Native people has a lot of great resources.
