Message from Rev. Lee – June 12, 2026

“None of us can do this alone, this living, this being in the world. We know that we need one another, especially in such stormy times.”

- Rev. Tess Baumberger

Suddenly it is the middle of June, time for our national UUA meeting (called General Assembly) and a number of ‘”last times” until September. For example, this Sunday will be our “last time” in the sanctuary until Sept. 13th. But there are still some ‘firsts” happening- like the first time we’re hosting a Rev250 event, and the first-year anniversary of the weekly pro-immigrant stand out at the Duck Bridge in Lawrence. Jackie is hoping a crowd will join them this week!

Last Sunday, we were treated for the first time to four original compositions by one among us, Aaron Pawelek, including one titled “River of Mercy.”  Part of the chorus went like this: “We need a river of mercy to roll through the streets in a beautiful flood- mercy to remind us everyone bleeds the same color of blood. We need an ocean of justice, wave after wave crashing over the wall; an ocean to remind us that justice for some isn’t justice at all.” Well, isn’t that the truth?!

We are still going strong and have a big North Parish weekend ahead- so choose your participatory moments! On Friday night, we are hosting Jonathan Lane of Mass Rev 250 for a historical conversation and enactment of the “Andover Resolve”, when the white men of Andover voted to support the Declaration of Independence (and thus the ensuing Revolution). Doors open at 6pm, program begins at 6:30; thanks to those organizing the reception and all cookie bakers.

This Saturday brings an Arts & Crafts session, a handbells rehearsal, and the last, sold-out Crossroads show of the spring. On Sunday we’ll celebrate Flower Communion, thank our leaders and volunteers, and share a Second Sunday lunch. After the service, we’re hosting a “No Kings- Rise Up, Sing Out” singing session.  If you loved Aaron’s new songs last Sunday, come to the Soul Singing circle and you might get to sing- or hear- a couple of them again! Hope to see you at the Meeting House.

Rev. Lee

P.S. One of you picked up on the part of my sermon last week that noted the Hebrew prophet Isaiah tried to get people’s attention by going naked for three years. You mused that perhaps that’s what’s needed at the weekly pro-Democracy stand-out in the rotary. I’m not one to put limits on folks, just as long as y’all are non-violent. “You do you!”, as the kids say.
