Afghan Refugees Update

The International Institute of New England’s Lowell office is coordinating support for Afghan arrivals. On Monday nine members of the 40 person NOBO (North of Boston) volunteer team picked up, delivered and set up furniture for an arriving Afghan family. More families are arriving in the coming weeks.Volunteers are needed to be on call for meal preparation and delivery throughout the month of November. This could be to hotels or to the IINE office. To sign up on the volunteer list, contact Dee Riemer, driemer39@gmail.comIf you want to get involved and missed the IINE Afghan Cultural Orientation for Volunteers, please consider signing up for the November 18, 10 am-12 pm Zoom session. The presentation provides deep insight into the challenges arriving families face and things to be conscious of, should we be in situations where we are in direct contact with newly arrived Afghan families.
