Membership: Establishing Connections

Membership at North Parish

membership@northparish.org

North Parish is an open and welcoming religious community that joyfully welcomes new members. Members are the lifeblood of this vital community. Members make all decisions related to church governance and provide the funds that enable the congregation to exist.

Membership is open to anyone eighteen or over who subscribes to the working principles of a free faith. It is also open to anyone who has completed a Unitarian Universalist Coming of Age program and is at least fifteen years of age. There is no other test of creed, or faith, and no test of national origin, race, class, gender, sexual or affectional orientation, gender identification, physical or mental disability imposed as a condition of membership.

How to become a member

Get to know us by attending worship services, fellowship dinners, classes and other events.  If you have children who may be interested in attending, check out our Religious Education programs.  Introduce yourself to one of the ministers, or contact a member of our membership committee.

Attend the New UUclass, where you’ll meet other newcomers, and you’ll learn about Unitarian Universalism, our programs here at the North Parish, and about the responsibilities and benefits of membership.  If you cannot attend a class, talk to Rev. Lee, Rev. Frank, or a membership committee member.

Fill out the paperwork.  Once you’ve decided to become a member, fill out the following forms:

  • Membership Application.  Submit it to a minister, to the Congregational Administrator, or to a member of membership committee.
  • Pledge Form.  This form asks you to estimate the financial support you expect to be able to give the church.  The congregation adopts a budget in May based upon the expected income, largely determined by the members’ pledges. Submit this form with your membership application.

You’ll be notified once the Board of Trustees has approved your membership application.

Attend a New Member Welcoming Ceremony. After you’ve become a member, you’ll be invited to the next New Member Welcoming Ceremony, which takes place several times a year during a worship service.  You’ll be introduced to the congregation during the service.
